Improvements and bugfixes
- Fixed performance issue of Windows users with restricted access rights working with large databases (e.g. ecoinvent 3.8).
- When updating Umberto models containing ecoinvent processes to a newer database version the activity link of the process variables are taken into account. This fixes an issue where updating processes with expanded variables could lead to wrong place assignments by the process update.

Upgrading models to GaBi 2021.2
- Please check and confirm the selected impact categories (see also effects on the results from below).
- When datasets from GaBi and ecoinvent database are used in the same model, please only use mapped impact categories (see “Indicators mapped between GaBi 2021.2 and Umberto” below for details).
- Please take note of update report warning: If a process was not updateable, manually replace the process with an adequate process from the 2021.2 GaBi database.
- Reduced or increased impact results are calculated, when impact factors for certain emissions or resource consumptions are updated within the impact assessment method (group).
- No results (value 0) are calculated, when the impact assessment method (group) or impact factor was renamed or restructured.
Known issues
- The allocation of the process “EnergySteam conversion (vlp) inv [technology mix] [production mix, at plant] [GLO]” (GaBi ext. DB II) must be set manually when using it in an Umberto model.

- Please check and confirm the selected impact categories (see also effects on the results from below).
- When datasets from gabi and ecoinvent database are used in the same model, please only use mapped impact categories (see “Indicators mapped between GaBi 2020 SP40 and Umberto” below for details).
- Please take note of update report warning: If a process was not updateable, manually replace the process with an adequate process from the 2020 SP40 gabi database.
- Reduced or increased impact results are calculated, when impact factors for certain emissions or resource consumptions are updated within the impact assessment method (group).
- No results (value 0) are calculated, when the impact assessment method (group) or impact factor was renamed or restructured.
Known issues
- The allocation of the process “EnergySteam conversion (vlp) inv [technology mix] [production mix, at plant] [GLO]” (GaBi ext. DB II) must be set manually when using it in an Umberto model.
- The name and the unit of the indicator group “Unit of Ionizing radiation - Midpoint C-60 [Bq C-60 eq. to air]” have been changed by GaBi to “Unit of Ionizing radiation - Midpoint Co-60 [kBq Co-60 eq. to air]”. It is in use by the ReCiPe method.

This is a bugfix release for the project update feature. It only concerns users who used result processes from the first release of GaBI SP39 (10.0.3.163, released end of August 2019) in their models. Models containing calculated flows could be rendered invalid by the project update in Umberto LCA+ v10.0.3.165. In such a case please upgrade the backup file generated by Umberto using this version.

Export and Import of project materials and cost types
This new feature exports and imports project materials and cost types in Umberto. You can access it via the menu
'File -> Export project materials and cost types...' or'File -> Import project materials and cost types...' .Export
The export generates an Excel file with worksheets for material groups, project materials, cost type groups and cost types. It also generates a worksheet with an introduction and a list of units of measure.
The worksheet ‘Introduction’ contains a list of available units and can be used as a reference when you add new materials. Note: This worksheet is for informational purposes only. It is not allowed to add user defined units or change the existing units. Any changes in this worksheet will be ignored during import.
The worksheet ‘Material Groups’ lists material groups with information about their hierarchy and group type. Please find the list of valid group type values below: * RawMaterials * Emissions * Energy * Intermediates * Products * MaterialLoss * UnavoidableWaste * Other
The worksheet ‘Cost Type Groups’ contains the same information for cost type groups. Valid group types are: * EnergyCost * SystemCost * WasteManagementCost * Other
The worksheet ‘Project Materials’ lists user defined project materials, i.e. no master data materials like ecoinvent exchanges. In addition to information about the containing group, unit of measure, and material type (Good, Bad, Neutral), it also contains information about the functional unit, if any.
The worksheet ‘Cost Types’ is similar to the worksheet ‘Project Materials’, with the exception that it does not allow for the definition of functional units.
Import
During import, the data read from the worksheets ‘Material Groups’, ‘Project Materials’, ‘Cost Type Groups’ and ‘Cost Types’ will be compared with the data present in Umberto. Please keep in mind that the import does not modify existing entries. It will only add new data.
Existing entries are looked up by UUIDs. If the UUID column is empty, entries are looked up by name. Additional checks by name are performed for materials of the same material group to make sure no two materials exists with the same name. The same applies to groups of the same name with different UUIDs.
When you want to manually add materials or material groups, you do not have to specify UUIDs, but it might be helpful when working with groups with identical names but different parent groups. On the Internet you will find convenient support. Just search for ‘generate UUID’.
Export and Import of assessment factors
This new feature exports and imports assessment factors, such as market price or GWP, in Umberto. You can access it via the menu
'File -> Export assessment factors...' or'File -> Import assessment factors...' .Export
During export, an Excel file with materials and their assessment factors is generated. You can choose to export all or only the assessment factors that have been activated.
Optionally, master data materials (e.g., ecoinvent) with their assessment factors can be exported, too.
In the generated Excel file, the assessment factors can now be adjusted in order to subsequently import them. You should not make any other changes in the Excel file, such as the renaming of materials. Otherwise, an import can no longer be performed. Also, tables should not be moved and worksheets should not be renamed.
The Excel file contains several worksheets, starting with ‘Assessment methods’ showing a list of all exported assessment methods.
The worksheet
'Project Materials' lists all the materials used in the project, both self-created materials and master data materials. In addition, the stored assessment factors per material are listed.If the ‘Export materials from enabled master data libraries’ option has been activated, a worksheet is also created for each master database in which all the materials are listed with the associated assessment factors.
User-defined assessment factors
During import, user-defined assessment factors are imported first. Initially this searches by UUID for existing assessment factors. If this is unsuccessful, the system searches for name, group name and unit name. If this too is not successful, the assessment factor is created and activated.
This is how to create assessment factors manually:

Open LCIA factors via menu
'Tools -> LCIA factors' -
Add a new group / method.

Rename the indicator and add as many new indicators as required. Do not forget to select an unit.
Import
Now you can import the assessment factors from the file generated before.
If you do not want to import assessment factors for master data materials, unselect the checkbox. In this case only the assessment factors from the worksheet
'Project Materials' will be imported. However, assessment factors for master data materials listed in this worksheet are always imported.Note: - If assessment factors for master data materials are adjusted, the corresponding materials are copied to the project, if they do not already exist. - For master data materials, only the market price and user-defined assessment methods can be adjusted, changes to predefined assessment methods are ignored.
Scenario Calculation
Improved ease of access and usability of the Scenario Calculation tool. The following extensions and corrections have been made:
- Now supports up to 500 parameters
- Added explanatory comments for named Excel regions, accessible via the Namesmanager
- Scenario Number Range is no longer restricted to numbers and now allows for text, allowing the user to use more explanatory scenario identifiers
- Result Excel file is now locked during the scenario calculation preventing issues caused by concurrent editing

Upgrading models to GaBi SP39
- Please check and confirm the selected impact categories (see also effects on the results from below).
- When datasets from gabi and ecoinvent database are used in the same model, please only use mapped impact categories (see “Indicators mapped between GaBi SP39 and Umberto” below for details).
- Please take note of update report warning: If a process was not updateable, please manually replace the process with an adequate process from the SP39 gabi database.
- Reduced or increased impact results are calculated, when impact factors for certain emissions or resource consumptions are updated within the impact assessment method (group).
- No results (value 0) are calculated, when the impact assessment method (group) or impact factor was renamed or restructured.

Scenario Calculation
- You can now calculate multiple scenarios at once using menu ‘Calculation -> Calculate Excel Scenarios’. The scenarios are managed using Microsoft Excel and Umberto Live Links. Currently only LCIA Raw Data are exported.

Umberto LCA+ is the successor product for Umberto NXT LCA and Umberto NXT Universal and combines the functionality of the former products and adds many new features.
Major Changes
- The updated ecoinvent 3.4 database is now available!
- MFCA: Material Flow Cost Accounting is an instrument to identify and calculate the real cost of waste and material losses. It can be an important element in tackling corporate resource efficiency.
- GroupType for MaterialGroups: The GroupType predefines the MaterialType of contained materials and is used by the MFCA calculation to classify materials.
- Carbon Footprint: CO2-Results with Summary, Details and Chart, and additionally a MFCA GWP Matrix. You can select the assessment method used for Carbon Footprint result views via menu “Tools->Options”.
- Live Links for Market Prices: You can now Add live links for the market price of materials in the property editor of a material.
- Process Dependencies: The specification of nets now contains an additional tab for “Process Dependencies” which can be used to enforce the calculation order of selected processes and subnets.
- German user interface: You can now change the language settings via menu “Tools->Options”. This setting has effect on all texts as well as number formats, eg. ‘.’ vs. ‘,’ as decimal separator (except functions/formulas and scripts).
- Combined Material Flow and Cost Raw Data Export for results.
