Release Notes for Umberto NXT LCA 7.1.13.522
Performance Improvements
- Switching between models
- Opening and closing models
- Switching Sankey diagram on and off
- Scrolling and moving within the editor is much smoother
- Migrating a project from U5.6 to Umberto NXT
- The performance of the editor can be improved with a new project option to limit the number of Sankey flows (options dialog: Editor | Sankey Flows):
Process Input/Output Balance
It is now possible to check your processes for input/output imbalances. This option can be enabled in the options dialog in the ‘Editor’ tab.
This option is disabled by default for LCA. You can enable the balance check for the unit type ‘Mass’ or for all unit types. After selecting the desired option, you need to click the “Refresh Process Hints” button in the editor toolbar.
After having refreshed the process hints a yellow warning sign will appear if imbalances have been detected. Hover over the warning sign to see a tooltip with the detailed imbalance warnings.
Usability Improvements
- Converting a process to User Defined Functions (UDF) will auto generate linear functions in the script based on the coefficients of the existing linear specification as default starting point.
- The calculation of a model can be resetted via the model’s context menu without the need to open it.
- All result view tables are now collapsed by default after a calculation.
GaBi Databases SP 30
- New extension database “Indian” available with 133 datasets for the Indian market
- New and updated datasets (e.g. in the Professional and Construction extension database)
- New and updated LCIA factors available
- Refer to the GaBi Change Log for a complete list of changes in SP30
- Corrected indicator values for the unit type Mass Flow Rate. This only affects the factors “Biotic Production Indicator (BP (Transf.))” and “Erosion Resistance Indicator (ER (Transf.))” from the group “Land use quantities”.
- [Addition 05-Mar-2018] Corrected flow types of several indicators. This can lead to different results for the affected indicators. NOTE: There is no automatic update of old projects, only newly created projects contain the new flow types. If you want to use the updated indicators in older projects, please copy the whole model via context menu ‘Copy Model’ and paste it to a newly created project via context menu ‘Paste Model’ of the ‘Models’ folder in the Project Explorer.
Bug fixes
- Fixed exception when calculating models with undefined coefficient values

Release Notes for Umberto NXT LCA 7.1.13.461
Extended ecoinvent 3.2 library with assessed intermediate exchanges
- Intermediate exchanges are assessed with aggregated, pre-calculated factors mostly based on global market data from the ecoinvent 3.2 default system model ‘allocation, cut-off’.
- LCAs can be calculated immediately only using materials, without having to expand the pre- and post-chains of the used ecoinvent 3.2 intermediate exchanges.
- The ecological impact of ecoinvent materials at the system boundaries will always be assessed. No delivering activity datasets are necessary in the model.
- Create slim and performant LCA models by only expanding the most relevant pre- and post-chains and using the default factors where appropriate!
- The new default GWP impact factor is by now changed from IPCC 2007 to IPCC 2013 GWP 100a, existing projects and their user defined materials have to be adapted manually.
- Materials in your current ecoinvent 3 models will be updated, nevertheless, nothing will change for you, the existing pre-chains will override the general aggregated values.
- Be aware that only ecoinvent 3 Materials will be updated with the aggregated impacts, there is no update from ecoinvent 2 to ecoinvent 3.
- Details about the generation and use of aggregated LCIA results are explained here.
- More Information on where you find the datasource of your materials in Umberto is given here.
Bug fixes
- fixed bug regarding boolean Material Properties unit
- LiveLinks are now correctly saved after copy & paste of Processes

Disable Master Data Libraries per Project
If you need only a sub set of your master data libraries for a given project you can now disable the ones you don’t need. Release Notes for Umberto NXT LCA 7.1.8.381
Export and Import of Linear Specifications for Arbitrary Parts of Your Models
You can now export the flow data of your model as Excel file in the form of an aggregated input/output table:
- First calculate your model (use Calculate Selection from the Calculation menu to limit the data to the selected elements of your model)
- Chose Export Input/Output Data (Linear Specification) from the Export Data toolbar button of the Inventories or Results view in order to write generate an Excel file:
This will give you a table like this:
This Excel file can be used in turn to specify a single process in Umberto NXT. Right click on the process you want to specify and chose Import Linear Specification from the context menu:
This will update the selected process and set a linear specification using the materials, coefficients etc. as defined in the Excel file. Missing materials will be created as needed.
Raw Data Export for Material Flows
We added a raw data export of the calculated material flows in your models. The exported data includes both internal flows and system border flows. If your model has more than one reference flow, the exported flows get split up according to the allocation rules in your model.
All raw data exports can now be accessed via a single drop down button in the calculations results view.
Multi-Place Assignment
It is now possible to assign the same place to multiple process variables in one step. Just select the desired rows in the Input / Output view of the process specification and chose a place via the context menu entry Assign Place:
Minor Changes
- The allocation area in the specification view is now only visible if the process has more than one reference flow and allocation is actually required
- License Expire warning now starts appearing 30 days before the license expires (was 90 days).
- Display subnets in explorer sorted by name.
- The executable installer can now produce MSI files (for automated software deployment)
Bugfixes
- Fixed problems with Live Links when the Umberto project has been opened with the Windows Explorer (double click).
- The unit cm * m3 in unit type Mechanical Filtration Unit (Occ.) has been renamed to cm * m2
Other Changes
- Umberto NXT now enforces limitations for educational licenses (see our FAQ for details)
Model Migration Tool

Release Notes for Umberto NXT LCA 7.1.8.322
The default allocation method for new processes is now “Physical”. In case you use physical allocation for reference flows with differing unit types you will get a warning for this process (physical allocation is only meaningful if the unit types of the reference flows match) and are invited to change to another allocation method.
“Use Entry as Manual Flow” now uses coefficient from linear specification where applicable
Manual flows in process specification can now be created even if there is already a calculated flow for the same material
Linear coefficients can now be 0 - this can be used to deactivate parts of your models etc. and gives you more flexibility
Values for the main material properties (GWP and market price, depending on your Umberto version) are now shown and edited scaled to the display unit of the material (e.g. this allows you to enter energy costs per kWh instead of MJ, etc.)
Better indication of usage of market price in calculation: Adjusted labels (“Market Price” / “Disposal Costs”) in property editor depending on material’s type
Drag & Drop enhancements for process specification:
Search Material dialog: You can now add more than one material in one step to the process specification:
ecoinvent 3 database: Clickable links pointing to the ecoinvent website for full documentation of data (Internet connection and ecoinvent account required)
