Release Notes for Umberto NXT Efficiency 7.1.13.226
Introduced ecoinvent 3.2 GWP database to calculate carbon footprints based on up-to-date ecoinvent 3.2 data
- Contains assessed elementary and intermediate exchanges from the ecoinvent 3.2 database as materials.
- Exchanges are assessed with (aggregated) GWP 100a factors from the IPCC 2013 impact assessment method.
- Different from ecoinvent 2.2, intermediate exchanges are not regionalized but provide general assessment factors mostly based on global market data from the ecoinvent 3.2 default system model ‘allocation, cut-off’.
- This further simplifies the creation of carbon footprint models as well as their re-use in LCA studies performed with larger versions of Umberto NXT (LCA and Universal).
- The ecoinvent 3.2 GWP database is available for customers with a valid ecoinvent 3.2 license.
- For a quote on a dedicated ecoinvent 3.2 GWP database license, please contact Umberto Customer Care.
- The content of the ecoinvent 3.2 GWP database is further explained here.
Export Inventory Data
- New function to export all stock and material flow data from selected net to Microsoft Excel.
- Available in the ‘raw data export’ drop down menu on the ‘inventories’ tabsheet.
Usability enhancements
- ‘Find Usages’ of materials: Double click on entry in dialog selects the corresponding net element in the editor.
- Allowed to move the progress dialog out of the way on the Windows desktop.
New installer
- Hint: Non-default installation path can now be changed via ‘Options’ button.
- Modernized installer user interface.
- For a detailed description of the installation, see here.
Performance improvements
- Accelerated editing coefficients in grids.
- Accelerated working with many live links.
- Accelerated paste and delete operations, especially in large models.
- Accelerated opening the ‘Add Material’ dialog.
- Switched to Microsoft .NET Framework 4.6 to significantly improve memory consumption and facilitate further performance improvements.
- Not every problem could be solved, but we will keep at it!
Bugfixes
- Create backup and better inform user when opening / converting project from other Umberto version (e.g. Umberto NXT Efficiency).
- Fixed display of live links for manual flows.
- Orthogonal option for arrows.
- Copy and paste of modules.
- Zero-flows visible in sankey arrow heads.

- ecoinvent 2.2 GWP
- PAS 2050
- BioGrace
Find Usages of Materials
Sometimes it can be quite useful to see in which places a given material is used. You can now get a list with the function Find Usages…, available via the context menu for materials in the project explorer:
Disable Master Data Libraries per Project
If you need only a sub set of your master data libraries for a given project you can now disable the ones you don’t need. This can help a lot when you are searching for a material, etc. In order to disable or enable a master data library, please click at Disable Master Data Library in the context menu of the master data library:
Minor changes
- The Process List report now includes the description of the processes.
- Materials can now be marked as Elementary Flows.

Release Notes for Umberto NXT Efficiency 7.1.8.172
Export and Import of Linear Specifications for Arbitrary Parts of Your Models
You can now export the flow data of your model as Excel file in the form of an aggregated input/output table:
- First calculate your model (use Calculate Selection from the Calculation menu to limit the data to the selected elements of your model)
- Chose Export Input/Output Data (Linear Specification) from the Export Data toolbar button of the Inventories or Results view in order to write generate an Excel file:
This will give you a table like this:
This Excel file can be used in turn to specify a single process in Umberto NXT. Right click on the process you want to specify and chose Import Linear Specification from the context menu:
This will update the selected process and set a linear specification using the materials, coefficients etc. as defined in the Excel file. Missing materials will be created as needed.
Raw Data Export for Material Flows
We added a raw data export of the calculated material flows in your models. The exported data includes both internal flows and system border flows. If your model has more than one reference flow, the exported flows get split up according to the allocation rules in your model. All raw data exports can now be accessed via a single drop down button in the calculations results view.
Multi-Place Assignment
It is now possible to assign the same place to multiple process variables in one step. Just select the desired rows in the Input / Output view of the process specification and chose a place via the context menu entry Assign Place:
Minor Changes
- The allocation area in the specification view is now only visible if the process has more than one reference flow and allocation is actually required
- License Expire warning now starts appearing 30 days before the license expires (was 90 days).
- Display subnets in explorer sorted by name.
- The executable installer can now produce MSI files (for automated software deployment)
Bugfixes
- Fixed problems with Live Links when the Umberto project has been opened with the Windows Explorer (double click).
- The unit cm * m3 in unit type Mechanical Filtration Unit (Occ.) has been renamed to cm * m2
Other Changes
- Umberto NXT now enforces limitations for educational licenses (see our FAQ for details)

Release Notes for Umberto NXT Efficiency 7.1.8.113
The default allocation method for new processes is now “Physical”. In case you use physical allocation for reference flows with differing unit types you will get a warning for this process (physical allocation is only meaningful if the unit types of the reference flows match) and are invited to change to another allocation method.
“Use Entry as Manual Flow” now uses coefficient from linear specification where applicable
Manual flows in process specification can now be created even if there is already a calculated flow for the same material
Linear coefficients can now be 0 - this can be used to deactivate parts of your models etc. and gives you more flexibility
Values for the main material properties (GWP and market price, depending on your Umberto version) are now shown and edited scaled to the display unit of the material (e.g. this allows you to enter energy costs per kWh instead of MJ, etc.)
Better indication of usage of market price in calculation: Adjusted labels (“Market Price” / “Disposal Costs”) in property editor depending on material’s type
Drag & Drop enhancements for process specification:
Search Material dialog: You can now add more than one material in one step to the process specification:
